The Caring Ministry is an outreach of First Presbyterian Church of York. Our primary mission is to show the love of Christ by meeting the needs of the under-served in our community. Through these efforts, we hope to open doors in peoples’ lives and hearts to hear the Gospel. Some of the ways we achieve this is through the following programs.
Ruth Kammer Food Pantry
Our food pantry provides groceries to an average of 640 people every month. Volunteers guide eligible clients through our new “Client Choice Program.” which allows them to select groceries that they know their families will eat and enjoy. Our aim is to duplicate a regular, in-store shopping experience and provide the clients with choice and dignity.

Bus Passes
In an effort to assist people who have gotten new jobs and are in need of transportation, the Caring Ministry can provide bus passes until they receive their first paycheck.

Referral Services
While the Caring Ministry offers an array of assistance programs for our community, we realize that we are unable to assist in every need. For this reason, we have become a relied upon referral agency. If we cannot meet the need, we will walk clients through the process of finding local organizations who can.

Special Programs
 – Hats, gloves, and coats are made available during the winter          months.
 – Summer Lunch Program for children ages 1-18.
 – Free Thanksgiving & Palm Sunday dinner for the community.
 – Christmas Hospitality provides Christmas dinner and gifts for        200 children and their parents in December.

ElderShare
ElderShare is a program sponsored through Central Penn Food Bank. It provides individuals who are 60+ with an extra free box of groceries each month on top of what is provided through the Caring Ministry.

Utility Relief
Caring Ministry is a partner agency with CAP (Community Action Program) and processes applications for utility relief for Columbia Gas customers.

Prescription Assistance
Through our Prescription Assistance Program, clients can be given up to $50 towards prescription costs once every 6 months. Clients are provided with vouchers redeemable at local pharmacies.

Spiritual Care
At the Caring Ministry, we want to meet the spiritual, as well as the physical, needs of our clients, For this reason, clients will always find a staff member or volunteer available and ready to pray with them, answer questions, or connect them to one of the many spiritual care programs offered at First Presbyterian Church of York.
